Bourbon Pairing: Wheat Penny Full Proof

Bourbon Pairing Wheat Penny Full Proof and Mashed Potato Balls

Wheat Penny Full-Proof and Fried Mashed Potato Balls to Die For!

With Thanksgiving nearly here we’re thinking of – what else? – scrumptious holiday foods, and special bourbon pairing with our new Full-Proof bourbon offerings, especially in States where we have some distribution.

To gather some ideas on regional holiday culinary faves we turned to Better Homes & Garden magazine, which recently featured an article on the topic called The Most Popular Thanksgiving Side Dish in Every State. The editors used Google trends search data to determine the popularity of dishes by state. Cool!

Connecticut and California happen to share mashed potatoes as their favorite Turkey Day side dish, and we can’t say we blame them. They’re creamy, savory, and serve as a great supporting cast member to the bird and stuffing.

We here at Cleveland Whiskey tend to be a little less traditional in everything we do, so we stayed with that theme and discovered a little twist on the subject from Mashed Potato Balls by Lena Abraham on Delish.  Abraham recommends using your leftover mashed potatoes for these scrumptious little spheres, though whichever direction you go, the mixture of creamy, balled-up potato, a little bacon, some cheese, a bit of onion and a light breading in the frying pan with a little oil will have your mouth watering in no time.
Who needs gravy, right? (Though we used a little spicy BBQ sauce to heat things up….)

Enter Wheat Penny Full Proof Bourbon. a 115-proof, non-chill filtered bourbon finished with toasted white oak and black cherry woods. The 45% wheat content in the mash bill brings sweetness to the nose and palate right up front, and as it develops, notes of caramelized sugar and a hint of smoke give a nice contrast to the light crunch and tanginess of the potato.
