Pomelo Whiskey Sour
When life hands you Pomelos, make a Pomelo Whiskey Sour! We are really spicing it up with this whiskey sour cocktail recipe. It’s a little more complex than your classic whiskey sour but just as easy to make and it has more flavor. If you don’t know what a pomelo is, it is similar to a grapefruit but pomelos have a thicker rind and much more pith. They are also larger than grapefruits, in fact, they are the largest of all citrus fruits. They both have a flavor profile that ranges from sweet to bittersweet, but the taste of a pomelo is noticeably sweeter.
This Pomelo Whiskey Sour is bright and citrusy with a kick of Wheat Penny 1958® Bourbon. In a traditional whiskey sour, you use egg whites to tame the tart flavor and create a smooth mouthfeel, but we used aquafaba instead. It is very mild and doesn’t mess with the taste of the cocktail. The key ingredient in this masterpiece is the Chinese 5-Spice! It adds sweet notes of cinnamon and fennel as well as a slight fiery pepper taste. If you’re looking to wake those tastebuds up, this Pomelo Whiskey Sour is for you! If you’re up to it, host a mini-cocktail party and share this delicious cocktail with your friends and family.
