Bacon & Bourbon Bloody Mary

We are wishing everyone a Bloody good year! If you haven’t made any New Year’s resolutions yet, we highly recommend them. It’s a great way to continue good practices, like drinking responsibly, changing an undesired habit, or accomplishing a personal goal like having more fun this year! A great way to start your 2023 is with a cocktail that is not only fun to make, but a thrill to drink. That’s right, we’re talking about the cocktail that made morning drinking acceptable, a Bloody Mary.

The history of the Bloody Mary is a good one, a young bartender named Fernand “Pete” Petiot invented the Bloody Mary at Harry’s New York Bar in Paris. Russians fleeing from the Revolution in the 1920s would bring vodka with them when arriving in Paris while the Americans brought canned tomato juice which was sold on menus during Prohibition under the name ‘tomato juice cocktail.’ From that unique combination, and Petiot’s addition of spices, seasoning, and lemon juice, the Bloody Mary was born.

Since its creation, the Bloody Mary has become known as the ultimate hangover cure and an essential part of brunch culture around the world. There’s nothing like meeting with friends the morning after for food and drink and enjoying one of these famed cocktails. While most Bloody Marys are made with vodka, we made ours with our Wheat Penny 1958® Bourbon, of course! The Bacon & Bourbon Bloody Mary is the perfect way to start your Sunday fun day. The smokiness of the bourbon enhances the Bloody Mary Mix in a way that vodka can’t. It’s got more flavor and more of a bite. Add in some bacon to get some salty flavor in there and you’re left with a perfectly balanced brunch cocktail. You can also add in whatever garnishes you’d like, the more the merrier! Cheers to 2023!
