The Beginning

A Limitation We Wouldn’t Accept

Have you ever wondered why whiskies have always been aged in oak and not in other woods? Historically, anything but an oak barrel would leak like a sieve, making it nearly impossible to play with all the wonderful flavors different woods can bring. That’s a limitation we wouldn’t accept.

Our founder, Tom Lix, was inspired about his idea for this process almost 20 years ago. Experimentation started in 2009 and the first batch was released to the public in 2013. We’ve never looked back since. Constantly refining, developing new technologies, testing out new woods, and pushing the limits on flavor, nuance, and quality.

Our Technology

The Science Behind the Spirit

Our proprietary technology allows us to finish our whiskies with a variety of woods. Although we still use white oak and some traditional processes, we don’t settle for the status quo. We mature and finish our whiskies in ways that allow us to open the world to flavors that have never been imagined. Something no one else can do.

We use relatively young spirits with measured amounts of wood cut into one inch cubes. Typically, this process happens in 24 hours, with pressure and temperature cycles that mimic the changes that happen in nature.
